Enhancing your gear in only four dungeons
We all have different definitions of the term and judging by the comments in the last post, others’ definition of casual is more severe than mine. I’ll get into casual vs. hardcore and the ridiculousness of those classifications in another post. For now, I hear you loud and clear, so let’s refrain from diving into that now.
I digress. As I was writing last week’s article I had this sneaking suspicion that I already wrote several articles on gearing your non-end game enhancement shaman. In fact I had written articles many moons ago, and they are all on my neglected blog, Big Hit Box. Time for a revisit.
The dungeon loot list
You would think that a dungeon gear wish list wouldn’t have changed much since March 2009, considering that only four new instances were released after that list was published. But those four instances cover nearly every slot with ilevel 219 and 232 gear, whereas the previous 12 dungeons drop ilevel 200 gear.
The TL;DR version of gearing up your enhancement shaman outside of raids is: grind the heck out of Trial of the Champion, Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron, and every tank’s favorite, Halls of Reflection. And yes tanks, that’s sarcasm; I know firsthand from my bear druid how nasty that place can be.
I wanted to title this post “A loot list for enhancement shaman who do not have regular or significant access to ICC gear, and may or may not consider themselves casual” but I didn’t think that would fit in the address bar. And, after filling out just a More...
World of Warcraft Cataclysm Beta Invitation
Included in this wave of testers for World of Warcraft Cataclysm beta invitations will be high end raiders – the groups of players who CONSTANTLY grind away at the game with the hope that maybe, one day, if they grind hard enough they will get a world first…well their reward is to be able to test the content on Blizzard’s behalf! I think buying a Beta key might be a better or more worhtwhile idea for them!). Anyway, they will be asked to check the new dungeons for difficulty level and gameplay.
WoW Cataclysm open beta invitations will be sent to people who register on WoW.com. The registration has not opened yet (as soon as it does, you will find information right here) so when it does you can go directly to the WoW site and register your name and email address – but be quick! There are more than 10,000,000 people waiting for a beta invite!

Dexter Worgen In World of Warcraft
On a related note, your ArP gems will automatically be converted to crit gems, which means that if you were matching red sockets with ArP gems, they won’t be matching anymore. This is only happening for ArP, i.e., existing AP gems will still grant AP; there just won’t be any new AP gems in Cataclysm.
Forget Worgen Freeman, I’m rolling a stab-stab-stab rogue named Dexter Worgen. Props to Joker for putting this idea in my head.
Tim asked:
“I know there is another patch before Cataclysm. Why isn’t anyone talking about it? Are they going to do something cool and event-y like the Scourge infection before Wrath? Maybe some more heavier seismic activity or something?”
There will be another patch, likely numbered 4.0 or 4.0.2. It’s going to contain things like the aftermath Operation: Gnomeregan. The only reason you haven’t heard anything about it lately is that the patch itself isn’t out on the PTR and we haven’t really heard much about that patch in particular. Remember though, the “Cataclysm patch” as it will be called, is just a complete dump of everything that’s in the Cataclysm expansion into the current world. So all the articles you see about specs and new spells (level 80 and below), will apply to that patch as much as they apply to the new expansion.
Dannyboy asked:
“What I am still wondering about is: Why do the hunter trainers in Stormwind and Gilneas still use mana when all the other hunters in game switched to focus?”

Cataclysm Beta: Tol Barad gallery
The new world PvP zone Tol Barad became ready for testing in the latest Cataclysm beta (build 12759), and we got to take a look at it more than a few times today. The zone is actually two islands consisting of a northern peninsula that serves as the quest hub — although none of the quest NPCs are implemented in this patch — and a Southern part that serves as the main stage for combat. The zone has a bleak forest landscape that evokes Duskwood and the Isle of Conquest, with the main combat area roughly about the size of Wintergrasp. Take a sneak peek into Tol Barad in our gallery below.

World of Warcraft Blood Sport: Gearing up for PvP
Listening Music: One of Sinatra’s best, My Way. I was going to choose a lesser-known Sinatra piece, but figured this one would be best for people who aren’t huge fans.
Last Week: We talked about why arenas might be awesome in Cataclysm. I’m stoked to see what Blizzard has for us — and that was before the talent change got my whistle wet.
This Week: I get a lot of common questions — one of them concerns how to gear up for arena (or gladiator, etc). Cataclysm is still a while off, and now is as good a time as any to start PvPing. If nothing else, PvP gear is some of the best leveling gear around. The mix of offensive stats plus massive resilience gives you little downtime.
Wintergrasp
Do Wintergrasp every time it’s available. Wintergrasp tokens can be exchanged for honor if you aren’t going to use the gear that the tokens can buy. Several quests award lots of honor, as well; make sure to do them each time they become available.
If you are on a server where your faction is severely outnumbered, take the time to craft a PvP spec that can take advantage of Tenacity. For instance, if you are a warlock, you might want to consider a spec which uses Metamorphosis. I’ve heard of warlocks mashing Demon Charge into Immolation Aura, killing off 20+ players of the enemy faction and making 3,000ish honor in the matter of 10 to 15 seconds. Seriously, I’ve seen screenshots.

6. Can equip almost any type of weapon in the game whereas other classes are more restricted. For example, a shaman can not use a sword and a Paladin can not use a bow.
Weaknesses:
1. Depends on rage too much.
2. Not a broad class.
3. Not the highest melee damage dealer.
4. More equipment dependant than other classes.
5. Dependency on the healing of other classes.
6. Somewhat limited in PvP due to the range and magic of other classes.
Hunter
